However, in service of the possibility that I might have something useful, I've temporarily added a photo of the list of pages into the images part of my profile page. That way you can see if there were anything that you were particularly interested in, based primarily on location. How inclusive is it? I entered all names that had the Soundex for anything that could sound like Van Wert ( like Van Nert, Vannord, Van Ord, Van Ward and more). I used the earlier system of V-563 not the W-630.
Here are some of the abbreviations I used:
ar1860i.html means the info is from the AZ census of 1860; the "i" means I only had the index at that point, not the actual data for the names.
Pages beginning with censlis mean a summary of all the individual state censuses--an index of all the indices. In censlis, the pages are by state then by county.
Names such as Hansel mean a concentration of a number of families that married VWs, usually in a small portion of a state
dir is always a city directory nbca is New Brunswick, Canada ny is not just a prefix for censuses but also about New York State VW families or their history rut means the Rutger branch sleep is Sleepy Hollow, NY teun means the Teunis branch uncinfo means an unconnected person with some info but nothing that connects to another person; organized by first name vschoon is Van Schoonderwoert
Best wishes to you! Linden
Thank you for your participation in October’s 2020 Source-a-thon. Your contributions helped us to clear over 57,000 profiles that needed sourcing. This makes our Shared Tree all that much better.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.
I see that you have already found the projects which fit your focus

Some names are much commoner than others. There are already 190 Hannah Porters on Wikitree and several are born on the same year, but you do need to create a new profile rather than altering an existing one to fit your Hannah. When you find a profile with little information that seems to fit check out any other family members attached to it to get a wider picture. Does your person fit with them? If not create a new profile and if they do turn out to be the same later they can always be merged, just as any mistakes can be reverted back to the origional state.
All the best,
David

PPS. Please avoid the use of abbreviations as they can mean different things in different countries, always use the full words
In regards to keeping track of pages visited
A. If you hover over the My Wikitree at the top of your profile in the drop down menu you will see Nav Home Page click this and you will see your initial two generation of your tree scroll down to see your scratch pad were you can save the page links see
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Home
B. Save the link into a draft email
C. Or bookmark the pages in your browser
This may help you keep track I use a combination of these for the different groups I am in
Regards Janet
Huge appreciation for the help of your wisdom! Linden
While most pages may be self-explanatory, here's how the more opaque abbreviations work:
For az1864i.html, it's the AZ census for 1864. The "i" means that it's just an index page and only shows what was in the index, not the details which would follow later.
censlis is an index of all the states censuses--an index of indices, if you will. It is organized by name and county
dir is always a city directory
hansel and other surnames are from concentrated areas in which VWs marry into many other families: Prerequsite: lots of children.
nbca is New Brunswick, Canada
ny connotes not only the state but also includes its VW history or other things relevant to a town
rutgrep is a report on the Rutger VW line as is teunrep on about Teunis's branch
sample is for an empty, readable form, 1790 to 1900, about what questions were asked
sleep is Sleepy Hollow, NY
uncinfo pages have small pieces of information unconnected to another person; organized by given name.
So if there's one that might be relevant, please ask, if it could be relevant. The less optimistic side of the coin is that I stopped adding new info when the site went down as of close to twenty years ago.
Best wishes, Linden
Thank you for the greeting and comments. As to the variants of Schoenderwoerdt, back then I put up a site on fortunecity which is alas, no more. But I do still have all of the info. Over the years, I've discovered some corrections are needed and intend to make them when I integrate that material, little by little into WikiTree.
In the meantime, I've been studying the How-To pages and the suggestions for rookies. I've also added a few names, and have been wrestling with the Québeçoise "dit" names. The hardest thing at this point is knowing how to ask a question in the proper format. I seem to have things that don't fit into the pop-down list of categories.
At any rate, If you are interested in an imperfect version of the site I had, here's the link to the 2006 archival version of it: http://community.fortunecity.ws/millenium/woody/166/index-2.html
The data is incomplete; all the census data isn't preserved online. By that I mean aaaaall the states' index info and names (my favorite portal of information for people's research) is not there anymore. Also many, many of the links don't even show there was a link. I did a cursory search for "Weert" in what is still online, though none showed. But there is all that census stuff in which I'm pretty sure had some Van Weert listings, still locked away on a zip disk or two. And yes, I still thought to keep a zip drive to access the info, just in case.
So a very warm thank you for your message! I'm looking forward to losing my wikitree training wheels and becoming a helpful contributor! Best to you, Linden
I am pleased to confirm you as a member and welcome you to the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
Please add as much information as you can, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Have fun collaborating on your van Wert and van Woert ancestors. Separate tags for the different spellings might help connect you with others researching those names

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm about to visit the New Member How-To pages and am appreciative that you have them. Likewise the surname variations. My research has found more than a dozen spellings, many perhaps out of choice but also some may be misspellings, as in the Ellis Island sorts of guesses. I'm wondering, how does tagging all the variations keep from fragmenting a tree? I notice, for example that Gunn becomes Gunneson and ends up at Olafsson here, so I imagine I'll learn the answer in the How-To.
I want to note that I'm so pleased by the ethics of the site. Since the financial struggles back at RootsWeb, I've been chafed at the idea of paying dues for research which, if posted for the public on that site, require others to pay for access to those results we contribute. It has prevented me from posting or sharing for many many years at the thought of enabling an injustice to those who don't have the luxury of paying.
With appreciation, Linden
I don’t really understand your example. If you send me a screenshot in a private message, I will try to explain.
I agree with you about sharing our research with everyone, plus I really believe in the need for sources, not just hearsay.
Wendy
What I mean about Van_Wert as a tag is that I've been searching for all variants of the name, whether or not they are my ancestors. Is that a legitimate tag or not? For a few examples, Van Oort, Wardt (without a "Van"), and Vannnort, to my knowledge, don't connect, but I followed them and collected whatever info I could find, in case someone was casting about for any similar name or by stretching what they knew into a close Soundex. Once I found a listing for "Ward, William Van", as I recall, possibly when a census taker thought Van was a middle name.
I'll check out the link you suggested, thank you!
Hastily, Linden

Thank you for the kindness of such a speedy welcome! Yes, after I visit the New Member How-To, I'll know more about which of my questions fall outside of the suggestions there, and thereafter to you. Thank you for the hospitality! Linden
